Kora-Rose, a four-year-old resident of Celina, is preparing to compete in the national finals of the America’s Best Pageant. The event is scheduled for September 11 in Nashville, Tennessee, where she will participate in an event called Toyfest. Kora-Rose, who is also known as Koko, earned her spot by winning her age division at a preliminary contest held in Mesquite last month.

Her mother, Chrissy Johnson, stated that the family did not initially realize the Mesquite competition was a qualifier for the national event.

Kora-Rose has been involved in pageantry since infancy, competing in her first contest at eight months old. Johnson described the early experience as a fun activity that quickly became a passion for her daughter. Since then, Kora-Rose has appeared in a documentary about pageantry, modeled for Pull-Ups, and featured in advertisements for Mercedes-Benz and JCPenney.

Johnson noted that the experience has helped her daughter build friendships and gain confidence on stage, distinguishing it from the negative portrayals often seen in media.

The national competition will include four stage events: an introduction, a beauty and style contest, a circus-themed segment, and a patriotic wear presentation. Johnson said Kora-Rose is eager to represent Texas and Celina. The child has expressed a preference for large audiences, telling her family she wanted to perform in front of 200 people rather than a small group of relatives during practice sessions.

The family has lived in Celina for six years, and Kora-Rose has never lived elsewhere. Johnson, who owns Celina Hair Co., credited the local community for supporting Kora-Rose’s journey. Several local businesses, including Hey Sugar Candy and Ice Cream, Silos In Celina, Papa Gallo’s Mexican Grill, and Little Wooden Penguin, have contributed to funding the trip to Nashville.

Johnson described Celina as home and noted the strong support from neighbors and local establishments.
