Celina ISD trustees get first look Monday at new elementary attendance zones for three schools opening in 2027

Proposed 2027-28 boundaries for Grumbles, Scott and Calvert elementaries go to the board Oct. 26 before any public feedback round, along with about $499,000 in classroom display panels for the three campuses.

Families in Celina ISD will soon learn which of three new elementary schools their children could attend. District staff will show trustees proposed attendance boundaries for the 2027-28 school year at the board's regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m.

The boundary changes are being drawn because Ophelia Grumbles Elementary, Alma Jo Scott Elementary and Janet Calvert Elementary are set to open that year, according to a board synopsis from Jason Johnston, the district's senior chief. Staff say they weighed enrollment trends, new neighborhoods and how much room each campus has.

Monday's presentation is for information only, and no vote is scheduled. The synopsis says the district will present the map to the board first, then share it with the public for feedback, and only after that bring a final recommendation back to trustees for a decision.

Equipping the new campuses

On the consent agenda, trustees will consider buying interactive classroom display panels for all three schools from Delcom Group, at $166,286.14 per campus, or $498,858.42 in all. The money would come from bond funds, and each purchase is over the $100,000 level that requires board approval under district policy.

The quote for Grumbles lists 58 BenQ 86-inch interactive displays at $2,714 each, along with seven mobile carts, warranty coverage, setup and shipping.

Innovation plan and test scores

The board is also scheduled to vote on renewing Celina ISD's District of Innovation plan, and the exemptions it contains. The current plan expires Jan. 31, 2027, and comes up for renewal every five years.

The Bobcat Council, a district committee, reviewed each exemption on Sept. 9, including changes made in 2025 to match House Bill 6, and voted unanimously to keep the plan as it is for another five years. Administrators recommend approval.

Trustees will also hear a review of beginning-of-year MAP test results in English language arts, math and science, and the annual evaluation of the district's program for emergent bilingual students, which the state requires each year.

In closed session, the board plans to discuss the superintendent's annual evaluation and a summary of findings from an intruder detection audit.
