Eighth-Inning Surge
The decisive sequence occurred in the top of the eighth inning, when the Athletics scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead. The rally began with a wild pitch from Houston reliever Bennett Sousa, allowing McNeil to score and moving Gelof to third base. The momentum continued when Butler singled to right field, driving in Gelof for the go-ahead run.
Finally, Heim grounded out to shortstop, allowing Butler to score and seal the victory. This three-run frame was the difference in a tightly contested contest at Daikin Park.
Early Offense
The game featured early scoring from both clubs. In the third inning, Walton homered to center field, a 422-foot shot that gave the Athletics an early 1-0 lead. Houston responded in the fourth inning when Diaz doubled to left field, allowing Walker to score and tie the game at 1-1.
The Astros extended their lead in the seventh inning, first with a 358-foot home run to left field by Varsho, and then when Peña singled to center field, allowing Wade Jr. to score. By the end of the seventh, Houston led 3-1.
