The Deciding Moment
Kevin Moreno singled to center field in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Luis Vargas, giving the Arizona Diamondbacks the winning run in a 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros. The game, played at Daikin Park before a crowd of 36,470, was decided in extra innings after both teams traded blows throughout the contest.
The Diamondbacks improved to 75-68, while the Astros fell to 73-70.
Game Flow
The Astros took an early lead in the top of the third inning when Paredes singled to right field, allowing Diaz and Trammell to score, putting Houston ahead 2-0. The Diamondbacks began their comeback in the bottom of the fifth.
Perdomo hit a sacrifice fly to center field for one run, followed by Paredes reaching on an infield single to second base, which scored Peña and made the score 2-1 in favor of Arizona. Houston responded in the top of the seventh inning when Nootbaar doubled to right field, scoring Tawa and tying the game at 2-2.
In the top of the eighth, Marte hit a home run to right field, traveling 388 feet, to give the Astros a 3-2 lead.
Pitching Performance
Brandon Pfaadt started for Arizona, pitching 6.1 innings while allowing seven hits and three earned runs, with two walks and four strikeouts. He was followed by Kevin Ginkel, who pitched 0.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out one. Juan Morillo pitched one scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Jonathan Loaisiga secured the win, pitching one inning, allowing one hit and two strikeouts. Brandyn Garcia collected the save, pitching one scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
For Houston, Ethan Pecko started, pitching 4.1 innings while allowing five hits and one earned run, with one walk and two strikeouts. Enyel De Los Santos pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out two. Kai-Wei Teng was charged with the hold, pitching 0.1 innings while allowing one earned run, two walks, and striking out one.
AJ Blubaugh took the blame, pitching 1.2 innings while allowing two hits and one earned run, with two strikeouts. Josh Hader pitched one scoreless inning with one strikeout. Bryan King took the loss, pitching one inning while allowing one hit and no walks.
