Turning Point and Early Scoring

Nick Allen’s offensive output proved decisive as the Houston Astros secured a 6-3 victory over the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park on Tuesday. Allen drove in three runs, providing the critical margin of victory in a contest defined by timely hitting and a late surge from Houston’s lineup.

The game’s momentum shifted early when Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Wood homered to right center, measuring 419 feet, to give the home team an early advantage. However, the Astros responded in the second inning. Allen hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Walker to score and tying the game at 1-1. Smith advanced to third base on the play.

Middle Innings and Houston’s Lead

The Nationals regained the lead in the third inning when Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Wood to make it 2-1. But Houston’s offense exploded in the fourth inning, turning the game on its head. Allen singled to left field, driving in two runs as Dezenzo and Walker scored. Matthews moved to second base during the play, extending Houston’s advantage to 3-2.

The Astros added to their lead later in the same inning. Vázquez hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Matthews to make the score 4-2. Vázquez continued his productive day in the sixth inning, singling to right field and driving in Dezenzo. Allen advanced to third base on the hit, pushing the Astros’ lead to 5-2.

Late Inning Finish

With the game effectively out of reach, Jose Altuve provided a dramatic moment in the eighth inning. He homered to left center, a 402-foot shot, to extend Houston’s lead to 6-2. The Nationals managed a late consolation run in the ninth inning when Tena homered to right center, a 398-foot blast, to make the final score 6-3.

Pitching Performance and Records

Houston’s bullpen was largely effective in preserving the lead. Steven Okert earned the win, pitching 1.1 innings with no earned runs and three strikeouts. Enyel De Los Santos and Bryan King each pitched a perfect inning for the save opportunities, earning their eighth and twelfth holds respectively. Josh Hader recorded the tenth save of the season, pitching 0.1 innings with one strikeout.

Andrew Alvarez took the loss for Washington, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits with five walks. He struck out three batters. Riley Cornelio pitched 1.1 innings for the Nationals, allowing one earned run and striking out three.

The victory improved Houston’s record to 46-48. The loss dropped Washington to 47-46. The game drew an attendance of 20,424 fans to Nationals Park.
