The game’s momentum shifted early when Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Wood homered to right center, measuring 419 feet, to give the home team an early advantage. However, the Astros responded in the second inning. Allen hit a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Walker to score and tying the game at 1-1. Smith advanced to third base on the play.
Middle Innings and Houston’s Lead
The Nationals regained the lead in the third inning when Abrams hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Wood to make it 2-1. But Houston’s offense exploded in the fourth inning, turning the game on its head. Allen singled to left field, driving in two runs as Dezenzo and Walker scored.
