Home may not be the only place a Celina resident needs to watch during this week's heavy-rain threat. The city's emergency-alert system allows people to register locations such as work and school as well.
That feature could be useful as a National Weather Service flood watch covers both Collin and Denton counties from 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, to 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2. All times are Central Daylight Time. The Fort Worth forecast office extended the watch in its 2:15 p.m. Sept. 29 update.
Slow-moving showers and storms may bring 2 to 4 inches across the watch area, with localized totals of 4 to 6 inches. Forecasters identify creeks, low-lying ground and low-water crossings as potential trouble spots for runoff.
Celina's Everbridge system delivers alerts by phone, text, email or app notification. The city says optional Weather Service notifications are location-based and go to registered addresses within an official warning area.
Review those preferences before the rain arrives. Registering several relevant locations within Celina can help keep a household informed about more than its home address, but the service does not replace calling 911 in an emergency. The city recommends using a desktop or laptop to register because some residents have encountered problems on mobile devices.
