Celina carries five-set escape into Friday volleyball semifinal against Midlothian

Celina gets another playoff test Friday, Nov. 6, when its girls volleyball team meets Midlothian at 6 p.m. at Newman Smith High School. Celina ISD’s athletics calendar lists the match as a regional semifinal.

The Bobcats earned that appointment the difficult way. In their Nov. 3 playoff match against Frisco Memorial, they trailed two sets to one before winning the fourth and fifth sets to advance, 3–2.

The MaxPreps box score records a 25–23, 24–26, 16–25, 25–23, 15–12 Celina victory. Three of the first four sets were decided by two points, followed by a three-point margin in the deciding set.

That sequence is the useful context for Friday: Celina has just won a match in which a strong opening set did not prevent a lengthy stretch under pressure. The Bobcats had to recover after consecutive set losses, then finish a short fifth set with little room for error.

For supporters planning to attend, the district lists Newman Smith as the match site, rather than Celina’s home gym. Check the district schedule before traveling for any late changes.
